The Highlands and Gulf Province

Day 1. Arrival in Port Moresby. Free day to relax and get used to the time zone

Day 2. Road Trip to the Gulf Province.
early start in the morning in order to head towards Mekeo village to watch the Chief head dress. Afterwards we will continue by boat down the river to Miaru village home stay. Team gets welcomed by village communities, watch sun setting and settle into home stay, local food and rest.

Day 3
Today we will witness the singing groups, how they get prepared to perform for the guests. We will also witness village lifestyle, women weaving mats, catching fish with net and cooking local food, visit village craft market. Return back to Miaru home stay. Local string band singing around fire.

Day 4. Travel back to Mosby. Breakfast-pack up and boat ride up the river to our transportation for Port Moresby Hotel.

Day 5 Fly to Mt Hagen
Meet on arrival at Kagamuga airport – Mt. Hagen and transfer to Travelers Hut for lunch and brief tour of Mt. Hagen market. Mt. Hagen to Paiya is approximately an hours’ drive. Meet people and as you drive along the sealed road, even stop over for photographing villages, farms and sceneries. Check in on arrival and afternoon at leisure.
Night Activity. Locals will put on a village music singsing using bamboos, guitars and Kundu drums, fire making using traditional methods, stone sharpening, bamboo flutes and even weaving for
making hand bags/bilums.

Day 6
This day you will tour a few villages for culture/ singsing performance.
B/fast and transfer to Huli wig man village, about an hour’s drive from the lodge. Here you will see Huli wig men putting on Huli dance with faces painted, head wig, plumes of birds of paradise dress in traditional costumes singing and dancing to the Kundu drum beats. Continue to Traveler’s Hut, lunch and transfer to Paiya village for village visit and traditional show – Hagen wig men and women dance/sing sing in costumes and faces painted continue with traditional cooking called mumu where food is prepared underground with hot stones mixed with vegetables. Continue with village museum and chief of the village with his wives in traditional attire

Day 7: “Alkena village for Kur Wari Dance” Early B/fast and transfer to Alkena for Kur Wari dance – special dance with faces painted and plumes of birds of paradise. It will take approximately 2 hours to arrive at Alkena

Day 8: Transfer to Goroka
After breakfast you will proceed to Goroka. On the way you will visit Minidima village of the Skeleton people putting up a courtship performance. Lunch at Mt. Wilhelm hotel and continue to Goroka and check in at the lodge. Later in the evening you will have the opportunity to see the Jiwaka dance

Day 9. The Asaro
Tour Goroka museum, the local market, and as well as visit the Asaro mud men village, where traditional cooking will also take place. In the afternoon we will return to the lodge.

Day 10: Transfer to Port Moresby on morning flight or in the afternoon

Day 11: Tour of Port Moresby, Hanubada floating village, possibly a couple of local singsing groups, the national museum and the fauna and flora sanctuary.

Day 12: Departure
