Overview

Voodoo, dances and rituals! That’s pretty much what this trip will consist of! So early next January let’s dive once again in the many mysteries of Africa! (4 – 13 January)

Final details will be released soon! But in the meantime, here are a few glimpses of what our expedition will contain!

Ganvie, the largest lakeside village in Africa, where more than 37,000 Tofinu live who carry out their activities aboard small pirogues. Ganvie is also known as the “African Venice”, it appears a large concentration of Tofín fishing families who hid in Lake Nokoué fleeing slavery in the 18th century. Tour along the “water channels”, meeting with the people, learning about the Tofín culture

Yoruba civilization. The Yoruba are the main group in this part of Africa and have an ancient culture that is transmitted through dance and music. We will have the opportunity to meet a famous people nearby, the Holi (Yoruba subgroup) of Issaba near Onigbolo, eminent farmers and animists, unstoppable and in tattooing their bodies and faces.

Somba, the Betamaribe people, animists, live mainly southwest of Natitingou, in the Boukoumbé plains, near the border with Togo. The Somba live isolated among their cultivated fields, rather than grouped in villages. Their houses, Tata Somba, are typical constructions that resemble miniature fortresses

Abomey. Abomey is an extraordinary city, with its winding streets with mud houses (mud bricks and adobe), as well as temples and palisades built by the kings of Dahomey. The Kingdom of Dahomey is the most important kingdom in southern Benin

Ouidah, the capital of African Voodoo, and of course the famous Voodoo festival
